In line with AP-ACR 2027’s theme of Consumer Research for Societal Impact, this roundtable seeks to spotlight consumer research that tackles some of the most pressing challenges in the world today, from sustainability and public health to digital disruption and financial vulnerability, and demonstrate how rigorous scholarship can deliver meaningful benefits to individuals, organizations, and society. As part of the Better Marketing for a Better World initiative, the proposed session will bring together leading scholars from diverse substantive domains to discuss research they believe exemplifies the spirit of societal impact.

Better Marketing for a Better World roundtable aims to inspire researchers by showcasing exemplary research that reflects the spirit of societal impact, that is, work that is theoretically sound, practically relevant, and demonstrates the breadth of ways consumer research can matter for the world. Second, the roundtable is intended to serve as a forum for dialogue and intellectual exchange, particularly for early-career faculty and junior scholars interested in conducting research with broader societal significance. By hearing how leading scholars identify, interpret, and build on work they find especially impactful, attendees will gain a clearer sense of what makes such research compelling and how they themselves might develop consequential projects in this domain.
We expect this roundtable to resonate with a broad audience of AP-ACR attendees across career stages. Given our panelists’ diverse areas of interest and expertise, we aim to highlight the many ways consumer researchers can approach and pursue topics central to societal well-being. We hope to foster a lively conversation among the panelists and attendees about how consumer research can help address some of the most pressing concerns of our time. By asking leading scholars to identify papers that they find especially impactful, the roundtable will showcase the richness of consumer research that not only advances theory but also meaningfully improves the conditions of human life. We hope the session will generate fresh ideas, inspire new collaborations, and encourage more scholars, from the Asia-Pacific and beyond, to pursue work that creates a better world.
